Law Abiding Citizen...a man who loses everything is capable of anything

I want to take the opportunity to look at the upcoming entertainment line-up.

As fall is fast approaching we’re getting into Oscar season. All the big movies are going to start coming out that the cinema companies want people to remember at the awards shows. Big time holidays are coming up as well — Thanksgiving and Christmas. With these holidays come presents and the big boon days for retail sales and video games.

Fall and winter is the big time for video games and the best ones will start coming out as the summer dry season for video games ends.

Movies

Law Abiding Citizen – After seeing the preview for this movie in the theaters it looks like it could be a very good drama movie with some good action this fall. The plot as revealed so far is that Clyde Shelton is the victim of a home invasion and his wife and daughter are killed. The killer is getting off because of a deal with the DA that gets another criminal on death row. An angry Shelton then goes on a mission to get revenge and “bring the system down” on the DA. (Video)

Zombieland – This was another movie that I saw the trailer for in the theaters. It is an interesting film mix of comedy and horror. The premise of the film is your basic zombie plot. A group of survivors is fighting off the living dead and think they have found a safe haven in an amusement park. The movie looks to be a well-rounded and entertaining film to watch from the trailer. The Vampire’s Assistant – This is the movie most intriguing to me. I’ve always been a fan of fantasy fiction but the movie is nice because while it looks to have a nicely-woven story to it there is also pinch of comedy to it. Like Coca-Cola with some vanilla added. The story is about a boy who ends up finding a flyer to a freak circus and encounters a vampire performing there. After the show is over the vampire approaches him and convinces the boy to become a vampire, hence the title. It looks to be a good movie and I can’t wait to see it. (Video)

Where The Wild Things Are – I remember reading this book when I was a kid. Normally there is something about books that get made into movies, especially ones from our childhood — the hype is there but sometimes it just doesn’t make it (see the live action Doctor Seuss movies and how flat they fell). My hope is that this movie is good and the trailer leaves and impression that it will be. (Video)

Me And Orson Welles – This movie actually came to me via a message and I found the trailer interesting. If you have movies or other mediums you would like to see reviewed or entertainment news swing it by me and I’ll be glad to take a look at it and put something up about it. The movie looks to be a comedy-drama mix. It is based off of the book of the same name and follows Richard Samuels who meets Orson Welles. Samuels convinces Welles to give him the role of Lucillus in Julius Caesar. This should be an entertaining movie to go watch. (Video)

Video Games

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days – This is the newest game in the Kingdom Hearts franchise. If you’re new to Kingdom Hearts it is a game made by Square Enix that is co-oped with Disney and uses characters from both franchises. The games have been rather good even if the storyline can be more Disney rather than Square Enix, i.e. kid-friendly. This newest installment will be for the Nintendo DS only, but like the Chain of Memories game will likely be ported to Sony’s Playstation 3 or PSP at some point. The game takes place between Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 and feature Roxas, the alter ego of Sora, the protagonist in Kingdom Hearts 1, 2, and Chain of Memories. It is anticipated to be another solid game in the series. (Video)

Halo 3: ODST – This game is the next big game in the Halo franchise. Halo 3: ODST takes place prior to the events of Halo 3 and has a new set of heroes. The story is based around a special force of UNSC soldiers known as Orbital Drop Shock Troopers. The newest trailer shows the game mode known as Firefight. Unlike the last game, this one looks to be very story-line heavy. Regardless, though, this game is a Halo game and is going to sell like hotcakes. (Video)

Left 4 Dead 2 – Valve announced the sequel to the award winning Left 4 Dead game to a mixed reaction in the community at E3 2009. Some were mad that a new installment was coming out so soon and that Valve had betrayed the community. Then came calls of racism because the game was set in New Orleans and some of the zombies would be black. Regardless Valve has stated that the game has a re-mastered mechanics and new infected to make the game more fun and addictive. If that is true this game will be worth every penny spent. (Video)

Assassin’s Creed 2 – If your seeing a sequel trend here there’s a reason why. In this recent market game developers have gone with sequels they know they can cash in on rather than new ops that they can’t be sure of. So here we come with another sequel — Assassin’s Creed 2. It sports some updated game-play, new settings, and a much better graphics. The game once again will play as Desmond but following a different assassin from the past. One of the cool elements is in this game you are friends with Leonardo da Vinci and get to play around with gadgets and some of his inventions. This easily should be a solid game worth buying and will be out for the PC, PlayStation 3, and X-Box 360. (Video)

DJ Hero – Activision has now come out with its newest music and rhythm game. DJ Hero will be giving you the chance to be a DJ with your own turntable. The game’s point system and feel will probably be like Guitar Hero but with more from the hip-hop scene. From the look of the game I can’t help but feel like I’ve been here before and how this is starting to feel much like DDR. Somewhere the bottom is going to fall out on this. Regardless, if you have the money to shell out for the game and turntable, which is probably going to be in the $80-100 range, it might be worth checking out. (Video)
