Arlington National CemetaryLess than a week after a deadly shooting at a military post in Ft. Hood, Texas, the nation paused Wednesday to honor the sacrifice of veterans.

President Obama, speaking at a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., said America’s soldiers chooses to serve a cause greater than self.

“They have protected us from danger, and they have given us the opportunity for a better life,” Obama said.

Meanwhile, according to a Wednesday report in the Army Times, the numbers of wounded U.S. soldiers coming home from Afghanistan continues to rise.

“Amputations, burns, brain injuries, and shrapnel wounds proliferate in Afghanistan, due mostly to crude, increasingly potent improvised bombs targeting U.S. forces,” the paper reported.

There are a ton of people out there that do jobs that need to be? recognized. Just because they are paid, doesn't mean that their service isn't valid. I am sure that most people feel the need for recognition in the work that they are paid to do. THEN when you add the fact that our military men and women are putting their lives on the line for OUR safety, I think they need MORE than one day to be recognized by our nation for their service.
