A new look for the New Year!
As most of our viewers have noticed, Big 3 News received a face lift this week.
This is in anticipation of the new year adage, “Out with the old, in with the new.” It’s also a chance for our team to step back and evaluate where we want to go in 2010.
When this project was developed in May 2009, the idea behind it was to produce original content that would ultimately be used in live streaming feeds and on-demand recorded content.
The template we selected in July 2009 was image-intensive and served our purposes well. Our contributors were able to keep content flowing which allowed the website to stay fresh and interactive.
Feedback from our readers was genuinely mixed. Some liked the news concept and all the social website tools incorporated into the website. Others said it was too busy and difficult to navigate.
As a result, we have rolled this new look while we decide how best to proceed. Time is a huge factor, as with any successful project a tremendous amount of hours is spent behind the scenes organizing and editing before you see the final product.
In addition, producing the live shows and recorded content plays a major role in the effectiveness of this project. The format of interactive news and allowing viewers to comment in real time is truly ground-breaking and unique. We have a received a very positive response with regard to this format and hope to build on this success in the future.
For now, we hope you adapt well to the new look. The template is modeled after a business card, with our social links prominently displayed on the home page.
The header contains a handful of links to our main pages. You can watch our streaming news programs by visiting the “Live Feed” link. Here you can subscribe to email alerts for future live feeds.
Underneath the social links on the front page, readers can see our latest website postings in the section called, “Editor’s Picks.”
Stories we find interesting and relevant from our feed reader will be displayed in the section called, “This Just In.”
You can pull up archived posts by category in the “More Premium Content” area.
The news video player will aggregate daily stories from various news sources.
A new feature we’ve added is “The Strongest Link” video player. This tool will be used to feature videos submitted to us by our readers during our live streams.
Located in the footer of the website is a new MP3 audio player from Streampad. When a reader clicks on the play icon on this customized red bar, feature audio promo selections will play. You can then open the player list with the icon on the right and browse through our playlist. If you have an original promo you’d like to share with us, send us an email at info@big3news.net and we’ll feature it here!
Finally, we have migrated our Photo Gallery to the Flickr photo stream service. If you would like to submit a photo to be featured in this section, please contact Suzanne at photos@big3news.net.
Thanks for your patience while we work through these latest design improvements. If you have suggestions or comments, please feel free to email us at info@big3news.net.
Happy New Year!
