Texas Congressman Ron Paul comes out on top in straw poll

This year’s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) Presidental Poll was shocking to many visitors.

Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) won the straw with 31% of the vote. Many expected Sarah Palin to take the poll with 80%, but she came out with only 7%. Paul came out of nowhere and took it.

In a speech to CPAC attendees, Paul challenged Republicans to return to their conservative roots and stand for limited government.

“This is a different year than anything we’ve ever experienced before,” Paul said. “By the end of this year, I think this country is going to be a lot better off.”

Paul said to be a conservative, means to conserve the good parts of America and to conserve the Constitution. He talked about past successes of the Republican Party, including the election of President Reagan in 1980, the rise to power in Congress in 1994, and the flip of control of the House, Senate and White House in 2000.

“But we didn’t get the revolution”, Paul said. “There was a lot of desire by people like you that said what we want is limited government, we want balanced budgets, we want our liberties back.”

Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney who has topped the charts for the past three years placed second with 22% of the vote. It seems that not only are the Tea Party members pulling for Paul, but alsoa  majority of Conservatives alike.

Many have asked will Dr. Ron Paul run for President in 2012?

Just take a look at www.ronpaul.com because he plans to run and he plans to win. Maybe Ron Paul is the next President and can bring America back to her Conservative roots that many believe she was founded on.

“Congressman Paul is committed to bringing the conservative movement back to its traditional platform of limited government, balanced budgets and a foreign policy of nonintervention,” said Paul spokesman Jesse Benton.
