A young man from Boston, Massachusetts is using the Internet to help raise awareness and funds in the fight against cancer for the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF).

The 2nd Annual “Artists 4 Life” charity event will be held on the popular social broadcasting website BlogTV on the following dates (2010 Artists 4 Life Official Schedule):

  • Friday – August 13 from 6 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
  • Saturday – August 14 from 1 p.m. to 1 a.m.
  • Sunday – August 15 from 2 p.m. to 12 a.m.

The event will consist of about 55 online performers — musicians, singers, poets, painters and artists — showing off their talent and talking about the impact cancer has had in their lives.

BlogTV musician Christian a.k.a. Artists4Life

For 23-year old Christian, the desire to offer his energy to the cause is intensely personal — his aunt was diagnosed with colon cancer and recently lost a five-year battle with the disease.

“That affected me alot, because my aunt was very close to me, she was my closest relative,” Christian said in an exclusive interview Wednesday with Big 3 News. “Last year, September 1st, she passed away from cancer. It killed me. It tore my heart to pieces.”

Christian said he had been on BlogTV for about two months when he lost his aunt, and decided to use the medium to help with the cancer cause.

“I’ve met a lot of awesome people on BlogTV,” Christian recalled. “The whole idea just came up in my mind. BlogTV has always been good to me, music-wise; I’m a musician, and it’s been helping me out.”

Christian said the talent pool on the social broadcasting site was amazing and he wanted to organize something that would have a positive impact.

“A lot of people think cancer is interchangeable with death, but I honestly think you can definitely beat cancer,” Christian said.

The online concert will feature some interesting performances by such personalities as Jennie Lovely, Queen Mecca,  Bob the Lizard, and Okse, to name a few.

The segments will run between fifteen minutes to one hour, with the majority lasting about thirty minutes each.

Christian hopes to raise $500 through credit card and check donations, with all proceeds going directly to the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

In an official certification letter seen by Big 3 News, the organization confirmed that Artists 4 Life is a registered LAF grassroots fundraiser whose efforts will support the Foundation.

“The donations received will support the mission of the LAF to inspire and empower people affected by cancer,” the Foundation stated. “The support of businesses and individuals is vital to our success, and with your help we will continue our advocacy, public health and research efforts for the 10 million cancer survivors living in the U.S. today.”

The Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Austin, Texas.
