AfghanistanBig 3 News’ Round Table panelists discuss a leaked Afghanistan military report published by the Washington Post on September 21, 2009.

The “Initial Assessment” 66-page report, authored by U.S. Commander of Forces in Afghanistan General Stanley McChrystal, calls for more troops within the next 12 months.

The report also suggests the military strategy cannot be focused on seizing terrain or destroying insurgent forces, but rather the objective must be winning over the population.

“I think leaving Afghanistan would be the best strategy,” Justin Liberty commented. “We’ve been there — it’s going to be a decade long war. We’ve accomplished nothing that we were supposed to have accomplished. It’s supposed to be the good war.”

“I think in some respect, we have a responsibility to follow through,” Jennie responded. “I don’t think that we need to stay the course as we are. I think we need to have a more proactive stance in Afghanistan. I have several good friends that are over there fighting right now and they really see  a lot of validity in the work that’s being done there.”
