A rare Texas snow event on Thursday has produced accumulations ranging from 3 inches near Waco to as much as 9.5 inches near Decatur, according to the United States National Weather Service (NWS).

Dallas/Fort Worth Airport recorded 7.9 inches of snow today, which breaks the previous daily record of 1.4 inches set in 1988. [See more Texas snowfall records here]

“Widespread precipitation continues to fall across much of north Texas,” NWS stated at 6:30 PM CST.

The band of snow continues to push south, and forecasters say snowfall rates in excess of “one inch per hour” are possible where heavier snowbands exist.

Big 3 News Contributor Suzanne sent us an “on-location” video clip of the snow coming down in Texas.

“It has been snowing here since 3 a.m., and it is still coming down,” Suzanne reported. “Texas rarely gets snow, especially not this much.”

Another Big 3 News reader, Kim from Texas, said forecasters are predicting eight inches of snow or more before the storm passes over her area in north Texas.

“I know that’s not a lot compared to the piles of snow they are getting up north, but this is a lot for Texas,” Kim said. “My daughter’s school is closed tomorrow. We had to go out today for doctor appointments and the roads weren’t bad, just slush, but it will get icy tonight because it’s supposed to be in the 20′s,” she reported.
