Jim
Jim, better known as “The Voice of The Big 3,” has led a diverse and interesting life.
That life began in an impoverished neighborhood in Baltimore, Maryland, where he was a part of a welfare family. However, this life was not one that he desired. So, with much hard work, he climbed his way out of his unwanted situation.
Jim began to get a glimpse of his future when his voice began to change. His family was so impressed by what they heard, they thought he should “be on the radio or something.”
The idea so intrigued him that by the age of eighteen he was hired at a syndicated traffic reporting service where it was his job to do the live traffic reports. It didn’t take long before he branched out, also doing commercials on the radio as well as television. Jim knew his life had changed when as a young professional, he accepted a job working with Oprah Winfrey.
Like many successful people, Jim has one major influence that stands out most in his mind. For him it is his high school English teacher, Mr. Karl Yount. This educator lived by the motto, “Never, ever, EVER be average!” Jim adopted this motto and took it to heart. It was this attitude that gave him the courage to explore his vocal talent.
While Jim has been out of the broadcasting business for many years, he still enjoys working on the occasional project. His voice over work for Big 3 News has again fanned the flames of his passion. He dreams of a time where he will be able to use his vocal talent and get back on the air.
Jim brings a high level of professionalism and an ability to bond with viewers to the live and recorded portions of Big 3 News. Jim’s voice is foundational to the project, from intros to outros, as well as at many points in between. His talent is unmistakable and his voice is a unique and irreplaceable part of each show. Big 3 News is truly fortunate to have Jim be a part of our news team.
