Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer on Monday vetoed House Bill 2177, legislation that would have empowered designated election officials in that state to determine if federal, state and local candidates were qualified to run for office.

The so-called “birther” bill would have required presidential candidates to prove they were a natural born citizen pursuant to Article II, Section I of the United States Constitution…

FBI Director Robert S. Mueller, in a rare field press conference on Sunday, said Congresswoman Gabrielle “Gabby” Giffords was the intended target in a dramatic Arizona shooting twenty-four hours earlier.

Prop 203: Arizona voters say "yes" to medical marijuana by slim margin

Arizona’s Proposition 203, which asked voters to approve the use of marijuana for medical purposes based on “compassion, control and commonsense”, narrowly passed as the final Nov. 2 ballots were tallied this weekend.

With 1.6 million total ballots cast and all precincts reporting, Arizona voters approved the “Arizona Medical Marijuana Act” with 50.15% in favor and 49.87% against, according to the Arizona Secretary of State’s office.

Arizona becomes the 15th medical marijuana state, and advocates are thrilled. Other states which have removed state-level criminal penalties for medical marijuana include: Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Vermont, Rhode Island and Washington…

BLOCKED: Federal judge says Arizona can't enforce state law to deal with immigration crime

Despite a backdrop of “rampant illegal immigration, escalating drug and human trafficking crimes, and serious public safety concerns,” a federal judge in Arizona on Wednesday blocked several provisions of a tough, new immigration law from taking effect.

Judge Susan Bolton, a Clinton-appointee, shared concerns expressed by the Obama Administration that the legislation could interfere with federal policy and create unnecessary burdens on legal resident aliens.

Citing a failure by the federal government to fix a national crisis over border control and illegal immigration, the State of Arizona last week passed a tough new law aimed at equipping law enforcement with tools necessary to protect citizens.
